Vladimir Putin's decision on Bashar al-Assad: Will he be extradited?

Following Syria's request for the extradition of its former leader Bashar al-Assad from Russia, a clear response came from the Kremlin. The Russian administration stated that al-Assad's extradition is out of the question. It was emphasized that the decision was made during the diplomatic contacts conducted between Moscow and Damascus.

ASYLUM GRANTED TO AL-ASSAD WAS PROVIDED BY PUTIN'S DIRECTIVE

The statement regarding the matter came from Russia's Ambassador to Iraq, Alperus Kotrashev. Kotrashev said that the right of asylum granted to Bashar al-Assad and his family was personally provided by President Vladimir Putin.

Stating that there is no agenda to change this decision, Kotrashev said, "This is a decision made directly by the will of the head of state. At this moment, there is no reason to change this will."

'CONDITIONS ARE BEING MET, THERE IS NO PROBLEM'

Kotrashev also expressed that the asylum granted to al-Assad is subject to certain conditions. At the forefront of these conditions is the obligation to refrain from any media visibility and political activity.

The ambassador said, "The conditions set for Bashar al-Assad to remain in Moscow are quite clear. So far, we have no evidence that these rules have been violated."
