Voting preference of the unemployed majority revealed: Gap widens among unemployed graduates

It has emerged that there is a significant shift in favor of the opposition in the political preferences of unemployed voters in Turkey. According to a survey conducted with 1,540 unemployed citizens, the Republican People's Party (CHP) took the lead in the general unemployment category with 33.2 percent, while the ruling party remained in second place with 27.6 percent.

ORC Research examined the political tendencies of unemployed citizens in its latest survey conducted between January 20-22, 2026.

Responses to the question, "If a general election were held this Sunday, which party would you vote for?" showed that the CHP maintains its lead among both unemployed and unemployed graduate voter groups.

CHP IN FIRST PLACE AMONG GENERAL UNEMPLOYED VOTER GROUP

As a result of interviews with a total of 1,540 unemployed voters in 26 provinces, the main opposition party, the CHP, ranks first with a rate of 33.2 percent. The ruling party, the AKP, is in second place with 27.6 percent. According to the survey, the DEM Party ranks third with 7.4 percent, followed by the MHP with 6.1 percent and the IYI Party with 5.5 percent.

CHP WIDENS THE GAP

One of the most striking parts of the research was the "Unemployed Graduates" category. Support for the CHP among educated but unemployed voters rose to 35.6 percent, while the AKP's vote in this group remained at the 25.4 percent level.

BALANCE OF OTHER PARTIES AND THE "UNDECIDED"

Another point that draws attention in the survey results is the situation of newly established and rising parties. The Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) ranks fifth, receiving 4.9 percent of the vote among the general unemployed and 5.2 percent among unemployed graduates. While the New Welfare Party (Yeniden Refah Partisi) remains below the threshold at 3.3 percent, parties such as the Great Unity Party (BBP), the Native and National Party (YMP), the Felicity Party (SP), and the Key Party (A Parti) are in the 1 to 3 percent band. The total vote of small parties in the "other" category reaches a high level of 6.1 percent among unemployed graduates.
