Warning from historian Sadık Usta: 'We are entering a dark period, wake up!'

In his post, Sadık Usta addressed the declarations of Sharia, sectarian conflicts, and threats against the secular lifestyle occurring in Syria.

Usta stated, "Before they have even said 'bismillah' (in the name of God), it is announced that Sharia will be declared in Syria. Before they have even said 'bismillah', barbaric jihadists are attacking non-sectarian Muslims, other faith groups, and non-believers."

"SECULAR LIFESTYLE IS IN DANGER"

Sadık Usta expressed that millions who embrace secularism are also in danger in Turkey, calling on secular segments and political parties in particular to wake up. Usta said, "Those who live their lives comfortably, saying 'nothing will happen to us,' must wake up now. We are entering a dark period."

WARNINGS FOR SYRIA AND TURKEY

Usta noted that Syria's secular and multicultural structure was different from that of Iraq or Afghanistan, but that this situation is changing rapidly. In his post, he posed the questions: "A government may give up and surrender the country at the negotiating table or abandon it. But what will happen to those who defend their country by fighting against barbaric jihadists, and those who want to protect their secular lifestyle and freedom of belief?"

A CALL TO "WAKE UP!"

Sadık Usta emphasized that defenders of secularism in Turkey, as well as members of the CHP and other political parties, should take this process more seriously. Stating that "days are approaching when you will realize that none of your property, the wealth you have accumulated, your fame, or your positions have any value," Usta expressed that we are on the threshold of a dark period.
