Was the Erdoğan-Biden meeting cancelled? 'If there is any other development...'

Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi, in his article regarding the claim that President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s US trip had been cancelled, wrote: “There is no information from the US regarding the cancellation of the trip, nor has any instruction been received by the relevant units from President Erdoğan regarding the cancellation of the trip.” Selvi stated, “A cancellation of the visit by the US is out of the question. They are preparing for the Biden-Erdoğan meeting to be held on May 9.”

"THE US IS PREPARING FOR ERDOĞAN'S TRIP"

Abdulkadir Selvi shared what he gathered from his sources regarding the claims in his article today:

“There has been no information provided by the US side regarding the cancellation of President Erdoğan’s US trip. In fact, the Americans want this visit to take place. A cancellation of the visit by the US is out of the question. They are preparing for the Biden-Erdoğan meeting to be held on May 9. US Acting Deputy Secretary of State John Bass was in Ankara last week to conduct preliminary preparations for the meeting. He was received by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and President Erdoğan. John Bass was the US Ambassador to Ankara during the July 15 period. He is an ambassador who carries question marks for me. But the talks regarding Erdoğan’s US visit went positively.

The US side is preparing for Erdoğan’s trip. The news report already claimed that it was Erdoğan, not the US, who cancelled it. I also inquired about the Turkish side from my sources. No instruction has gone to the relevant units from President Erdoğan stating that he has cancelled the US trip. If Erdoğan were to cancel the trip, the Presidential Foreign Affairs department and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would need to be informed as a priority. If an instruction to cancel were to come from Erdoğan, the Presidential Complex and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would need to inform their counterparts in the US. But there is no such instruction.”

"INFORMATION I REACHED WITHIN 24 HOURS"

To summarize briefly, there is no information from the US regarding the cancellation of the trip, nor has any instruction been received by the relevant units from President Erdoğan regarding the cancellation of the trip. Currently, work is being carried out under the assumption that the trip will take place. This is the information I have reached within 24 hours. If there is any other development tomorrow, I will share it as well.”

WHAT HAPPENED?

It had been announced that Erdoğan would go to the US as an official guest on May 9. However, some claims were made that the visit had been cancelled. No statement regarding the claims has come from the government side.
