The Edirne Municipal Council has decided to increase water prices by 30 percent. During the meeting, where 22 items were discussed, the necessity of saving water was emphasized. Mayor Akın drew attention to the water scarcity.
The October ordinary meeting of the Edirne Municipal Council was held at the Atatürk Cultural Center, chaired by Mayor Filiz Gencan Akın. During the meeting, 22 items, including 13 on the agenda and 9 off-agenda, were discussed and decided upon.

At the meeting, the Planning and Budget Commission's proposal for a 30 percent increase in water prices was discussed. Commission Chairman Engin Yağcılar provided information regarding the changes in prices. AKP Group Chairman Recai Koçaşlı stated that they opposed the hike and would vote "against" it.
The proposal for a 30 percent increase in water prices was accepted by majority vote. Mayor Akın stated that water should be used carefully.
Stating that efforts are being made to increase the municipality's revenues, Akın noted the following:
"There were figures that remained well below those of all other cities. I am not evaluating the situation only from this perspective. As you know, we are now facing a water scarcity. Perhaps we are not yet among the water-poor cities, but we are slowly approaching a negative scenario. Therefore, I would like to appeal to our fellow citizens in Edirne from here. Please let us be careful with our water consumption; we need to save for the sake of transferring it to future generations."
At the meeting, it was decided to sell 2 plots of land belonging to the municipality in the Karaağaç and Yeniimaret neighborhoods, as well as a social facility area plot in the 100. Yıl neighborhood.
