Water well collapse in Samsun: 2 workers lose their lives
In Samsun, 2 workers digging a well to extract water were trapped under soil. The lifeless bodies of the 2 workers have been recovered.
A landslide occurred during water well excavation work in a hazelnut field in the Çınarlık locality of Evrenuşağı neighborhood in Samsun's Bafra district.
Sabri Bayraktar and Mustafa Aydın, who were working to dig the well, were trapped under the soil.
Upon notification, the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE), fire department personnel, and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region.
As a result of the work carried out by the teams, the bodies of the 2 individuals were recovered.
Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan, in his statement regarding the matter, recalled that the collapse occurred during a well excavation.
Stating that according to initial information, it was understood that 2 people were digging the well while 1 person was waiting outside, Doğan said, "They gave notice when the collapse occurred. AFAD, municipal, fire, and health teams carried out rapid work at the scene. As a result of the work of construction machinery, the lifeless bodies of the citizens in question were recovered a short while ago."
