Waterspout in Ordu: 'It tossed us around'

Fishermen Mahmut Oktay and Birol Özkan passed through a waterspout that occurred on June 26 while they were at sea, which was also visible from various points in the city.

The footage of the incident, which was shared many times on social media accounts, attracted significant attention. Mahmut Oktay, who lives in the Fatsa district, said that a waterspout suddenly appeared at sea while they were fishing in their 7-meter boat.

Stating that he decided to pass through the waterspout when he saw it approaching them, Oktay said, "I wanted to pass through it, partly out of curiosity. We decided to try it for the sake of adventure and adrenaline. I wanted to enter it to see how much force it had. We did it to see what kind of feeling it would give."

"IT FELT LIKE IT WAS TOSSING US AROUND"

Explaining that they knew their actions were dangerous, Oktay said, "When we entered it, the waterspout felt like it was tossing us around. It was an incredible thing. Honestly, I wasn't afraid at all."

Stating that those who watched the footage called them "Crazy Turks," Oktay added, "However, I wouldn't want to do it again because I have already had this experience once. I won't do the same thing again."

Oktay added that he was filming with his mobile phone during the incident and that those who watched the footage were very surprised. Fisherman Birol Özkan stated that they encountered such a natural phenomenon while fishing and that it was a very adventurous experience.

"IT WASN'T VERY STRONG"

Expressing that they were very excited while passing through the waterspout, Özkan said, "It wasn't very strong anyway, we weren't afraid."
