Welcomed with ululations: Terrorist leader Öcalan's 'left-hand man' headed straight there upon release
Veysi Aktaş, a PKK convict who sat to the left of terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, headed straight to the DEM Party Diyarbakır Provincial Presidency building following his release. Aktaş was visited by the DBP Co-Chairs.
In the new reconciliation process dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey' by the government, the release of PKK convict Veysi Aktaş, who sat to the left of terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in his video message, after 31 years and 3 months, has become a major topic of discussion.
The General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses (CTE) had issued a statement regarding the release of Veysi Aktaş, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of "attempting to separate a part of the lands under the sovereignty of the state from state administration" (Article 125 of the former Turkish Penal Code No. 765), stating that all procedures regarding the convict's conditional release were carried out within the framework of execution legislation and judicial decisions, and that no special treatment was applied.
Veysi Aktaş, who was released from İmralı after 31 years, was welcomed with ululations at Diyarbakır Airport.
As reported by MA, Aktaş headed to the DEM Party Diyarbakır Provincial Presidency building following his release. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chairs Çiğdem Kılıçgün Uçar and Keskin Bayındır visited Aktaş there.
