Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, in a statement regarding the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara on April 23, said, "Our schools did not sustain damage in the earthquake."

In Istanbul, where numerous aftershocks occurred, education was suspended for 2 days (Thursday and Friday) in all institutions from kindergartens to universities. Classes resumed today in educational institutions across the city. It was decided that training on behaviors and precautions to be taken during disasters would be provided in the first lesson today in all public and private schools. Making statements before the disaster training, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül used the expression, "Our schools did not sustain damage in the earthquake."
