What Ahmet Özer was asked during police interrogation revealed: CHP's Zeybek explains
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökhan Zeybek provided an update on the situation of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who is giving his statement to the prosecutor, during a live broadcast he attended.
Participating in Uğur Dündar's Arena program, Zeybek explained what happened during Ahmet Özer's police interrogation and what questions were put to him in his statement from in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse.
Zeybek made the following statements during the live broadcast:
Esenyurt is Turkey's largest district; we are not talking about an operation conducted on the mayor of just any district, but rather a place where crimes and criminals run rampant.
Mr. Özer was elected by receiving the vote of one in every two Esenyurt residents. We have become informed about the questions directed at him at the police station. These are completely fabricated questions. Questions such as why he wrote a book he authored, why a singer named Rojin was brought to a festival where 46 eastern associations came together, and old phone records were asked of him...
I want to state that crimes and accusations are being made based on manufactured documents. We are now in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse, and his statement is being taken by the deputy prosecutor. When he asked for the documents regarding the allegations directed at him, no document or file was shown to him.
We check whether every person who applies for candidacy has a criminal record; we examine their archive records and show diligence so that their candidacies are not canceled.
Our professor Ahmet Özer has no criminal record; he is a Kurdish intellectual born in Van. More than 500 thousand Kurdish citizens live in Esenyurt. The perception being attempted to be created regarding the people he met and visited here shows that discrimination still continues in this country and that citizens are subjected to discrimination based on the language they speak and the place they were born.
"A FABRICATED POLITICAL CASE"
We are following the process closely and are waiting for the decision the prosecutor will make. When we look at the documents and findings at the police station, it looks like a fabricated political case. All the documents announced by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office are outside the law. I also regretfully condemn them for making statements that mislead the public.
The fact that the President and the partners of the ruling party are making statements as if a decision has already been made reveals that this is a political investigation. It is also an indication that the decision is political.
They could not accept the existence of CHP municipalities; they could not accept the decisions of the nation.
They are acting with the sentiment of having lost a district that they had turned into a center of plunder and looting.
Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation; it is not possible for the country to move forward with setup courts established against politicians by the judiciary in recent times.
