1896: The first modern Olympic Games began in Athens, spreading the unifying spirit of sports to the entire world1.

1979: Turkish athlete Veli Ballı made our country proud by finishing first in the international marathon held in Athens1.

1869: The patent for celluloid was obtained, laying the foundations for the modern plastics industry2.

1953 - The Turkish Youth National Football Team became third in the world.

1973 - Quota senator and retired Admiral Fahri Korutürk was elected as the 6th President of Turkey with 365 votes in the 15th round.

1980 - President Fahri Korutürk, whose term had expired, left the Çankaya Presidential Palace. İhsan Sabri Çağlayangil, President of the Senate of the Republic, began to serve as acting president. A presidential election was once again not held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). A president could not be elected for months until September 12, 1980.
