Today in history, March 7, has been the scene of many important events in Turkey and around the world.
Some of these events are as follows:
1876: Alexander Graham Bell received the patent for his invention, which he called the telephone. Bell first demonstrated how the telephone worked to his assistant, Thomas Watson, on March 10, 1876. This was considered a revolution in the history of communication.
1966: In the earthquake that occurred in Erzurum and Muş; 15 people died, 25 people were injured, and 2,380 houses were destroyed. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 6.7. The earthquake caused great destruction and panic in the region.
1954: The Petroleum Law, which opened the oil industry to foreign capital, was passed. The General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs was established. This law led to the transfer of Turkey's oil resources to foreign companies. The law was met with great reaction from the Turkish public. The law was amended in 1974.
