The results of an investigation conducted by experts in a region near the village of Başmakçı in Niğde, which had drawn the attention of a citizen who requested an examination due to the belief that it might be a fossil, have been announced.

In a statement made by the Niğde Governor's Office, it was stated: "Following claims that a dinosaur fossil was found near Başmakçı village in our Ulukışla district today, examinations conducted by experts in the field revealed that the materials resembling fossil remains are travertine nodule formations consistent with the geological structure of the region. The examinations determined that these formations consist entirely of calcium carbonate; therefore, it has been established that these pieces are not fossils but travertine stone."
