When will the first snow fall in 2025? An expert has provided the answer to the question millions are wondering about

Turkey woke up to spring-like weather on the morning of January 1st. While the dry and sunny weather across the country allowed citizens to relax by the coast, the long-awaited statement came from Meteorology Expert Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen. 

Providing a date for the first snow of the year, Şen announced that downpours would be seen in some cities on Saturday. He stated that temperatures will drop slightly on Sunday and that precipitation will turn into snow in some cities.

THE FIRST SNOW IS COMING THIS WEEKEND

Addressing the curiosity of millions wondering when the first snow of the new year will fall, Şen said, "The first snow will fall in Turkey around the 4th or 5th, meaning this weekend. However, snow is not expected in Istanbul on the 4th or 5th. But it could fall in the east of the Marmara region, meaning around Kocaeli and Bursa. Therefore, the first snow will fall in Anatolia around the 4th or 5th of the month."

WHEN WILL ISTANBUL MEET THE SNOW?

Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen also announced on a live broadcast when the first snow of 2025 will fall in Istanbul. Şen stated that snow is expected in the second week of January and used the following expressions:

"When we look at Istanbul, snow is expected in the Marmara region around the 12th or after the 12th, meaning towards the end of the second week of January. This includes Istanbul. The weather will cool down a bit this weekend; temperatures will drop by 3-4 degrees on Saturday and Monday, but will rise by 3-4 degrees starting Monday. The following weekend, it will cool down again and bring the possibility of snow to the Marmara region."
