WHY ARE DEPUTY MAYORS BEING ELECTED?
In a statement issued by the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was stated that the Ministry of Interior had suspended Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık as a temporary precautionary measure. Following this development, it was reported that the councils of both municipalities would convene to elect a deputy mayor in accordance with Article 45 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.

WHEN WILL THE IMM AND BEYLİKDÜZÜ DEPUTY MAYORS BE ELECTED?
According to the statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council will meet at the IMM council meeting hall on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 13:00 to determine the deputy mayor.
On the same day, the Beylikdüzü Municipal Council will also convene at the municipal council hall at 09:00 to elect a temporary deputy mayor. The Governor's Office announced that it has granted the necessary approval for these meetings to take place within the legal framework.
