Where will the PKK surrender its weapons? Statement from the Ministry of National Defense
The Ministry of National Defense announced that the process regarding the PKK's decision to disband is being carried out meticulously and in coordination with the relevant state institutions. While the steps of the disarmament process on the ground are being closely monitored, a warning was issued against potential provocations.
Sources from the Ministry of National Defense answered journalists' questions during the weekly press briefing. The ministry sources made the following assessments regarding questions about the terrorist organization PKK's disbandment process:
WHERE WILL THE WEAPONS BE SURRENDERED?
"The separatist terrorist organization PKK has announced that it has disbanded and decided to lay down its arms. The process will be carried out with great sensitivity and meticulousness in coordination with the relevant institutions of our state; the concrete steps of the decision taken on the ground will be closely monitored. Regarding the surrender of weapons, a mechanism will be established by the relevant units of our state in coordination with the counterparts of the countries in the region.
"THE STRUGGLE WILL CONTINUE AS LONG AS TERROR EXISTS"
We believe it is useful to point out that one must be vigilant against provocations that may be carried out by both the countries that use the separatist terrorist organization PKK and those within the organization who do not support this decision.
Our Turkish Armed Forces will continue with determination their land search and scanning activities in areas used by the separatist terrorist organization PKK, as well as the detection and destruction of caves, shelters, bunkers, mines, and improvised explosive devices, until it is certain that the region is cleared and will no longer pose a threat to our country".
COOPERATION AND SECURITY DIRECTOR POSITION AT NATO
Regarding questions about a Turkish General being elected to the position of Director of Cooperation and Security at NATO, ministry sources said the following:
"In our weekly press briefing held last week, the phrase 'for the first time' was inadvertently used instead of 'for the first time in many years' regarding our General who was elected to the 'Director of Cooperation and Security' position at NATO. We apologize to the public and to our commanders who have served in the directorate position in the past for this material error".
