While citizens struggle with the cost of living, AKP members hold a sausage barbecue party in Kayseri

The AKP-run Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality organized a promotional ceremony for the Erciyes High Altitude Camp Center.

Footage of AKP members holding a sausage barbecue party became a trending topic on social media. Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak and Hulusi Akar also attended the event.

In the footage, Minister Aşkın Bak was seen taking charge of the grill and calling out, "Bring the bread, these are abundant. There is fish, there is anchovy too. Turn them so they don't burn."

The fact that government members held a barbecue party during a period when citizens are struggling with the cost of living drew backlash.

AKP Kayseri Provincial Chairman Fatih Üzüm defended the event with the words, "We offered the pleasure of Kayseri Sausage to our fellow citizens."

"YOU DO NOT FEAR GOD EITHER!"

The barbecue party drew criticism from Democrat Party Deputy Chairman Cemal Enginyurt.

Referring to the words of Kayseri Deputy Hulusi Akar, who attended the barbecue party, that "We will teach children from the age of 4 to fear God and be ashamed before people," Enginyurt used the expression, "Is this your understanding of fearing God and being ashamed before people? You are neither ashamed before people nor do you fear God; you have gone astray. Shame on you."

In a video he published on his social media account, Enginyurt said the following:

“Hulusi Akar, who talks about fearing God and being ashamed before people, has taken a minister with him, Osman Bak, who is responsible for youth, and they have sat down and are having a sausage barbecue. Young people have become unable to recognize sausage. Meat has not entered the homes of retirees for months. Hulusi Akar is holding a barbecue party. And they are even broadcasting this. What kind of shameless people are you? The Prophet said, 'He is not one of us who goes to bed with a full stomach while his neighbor is hungry.'

You talk about religion and faith, but you are trampling on and swallowing even this hadith. Shame on you. The nation is hungry, the nation cannot put bread on its table, the nation's children cannot eat a simit and drink ayran at school, but you are holding a sausage barbecue party and you are practically shoving it in the nation's face. Is this your understanding of fearing God and being ashamed before people? You are neither ashamed before people nor do you fear God; you have gone astray. Shame on you!”
