WHO IS AHMET TÜRK?
Ahmet Türk was born on July 2, 1942, in Mardin. Having completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Mardin, Türk was elected as a Mardin Deputy from the Democratic Party in 1973. Later joining the CHP, Türk continued his political life in the CHP until 1980.
Joining the SHP in 1987, Türk was expelled from the SHP on the grounds that he attended a conference held in Paris in 1989.
Having served as a founding member and Chairman of the People's Labor Party (HEP) and the Democratic Society Party (DTP), Türk entered Parliament as an Independent Mardin Deputy in the 2007 General Elections, but his parliamentary membership was revoked when the DTP was closed in 2009.

Elected as the Independent Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality in 2014 with the support of the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), Türk was removed from office by the Ministry of Interior on November 17, 2016, within the scope of a terrorism investigation conducted against him, and was taken into custody on November 21, 2016. Arrested on November 24, 2016, Türk was released on February 3, 2017, under judicial control due to health problems.
Elected as the HDP Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality in the local elections on March 31, 2019, Türk was removed from office again on August 19, 2019, within the scope of a terrorism investigation conducted against him.
Finally, on November 4, 2024, Ahmet Türk was removed from his position as Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality for the 3rd time, and a trustee was appointed in his place.
