WHO IS ASIL NADIR?

Asil Nadir (born May 1, 1941; Lefke) was a Turkish Cypriot businessman. Asil Nadir was born on May 1, 1941, in Lefke, as the son of İrfan and Safiye Nadir. His father, İrfan Nadir, worked as a police officer in Cyprus until the 1950s, after which he left his post and settled in Famagusta. In his childhood, Nadir sold newspapers in the Varosha region of Famagusta. His father later established the first bus company in the TRNC with buses he brought from England.

Following the EOKA attacks in 1955, the Nadir family moved to England in 1963. Asil Nadir was sent to Turkey to study at the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University, but he left university early to enter the business world. Nadir completed his education after 1980. The family, having settled in London, purchased a company called Wear Well, which operated in the retail sector. After the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation, he returned to Nicosia and began working in the textile sector.
