World-renowned violinist Ayla Erduran, who was introduced to the violin at the age of just 4 and packed countless achievements into her 90-year life, has passed away. 

WHO IS AYLA ERDURAN?

Ayla Erduran was born on August 22, 1934, in Istanbul. She began playing the violin at the age of 4 with Karl Berger and gave her first recital at the age of 10, accompanied by Ferdi Ştatzer.

Graduating from the Paris Conservatory with top honors, Erduran studied with Ivan Galamian and Zino Francescatti in the USA and began her European career accompanied by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1957, she studied with David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatory and won an award at the Wieniawski Competition.

Erduran, who won the Beethoven Prize in 1970, was awarded the title of State Artist in 1971. In 1985, she recorded the Brahms concerto with the London Philharmonic and gave concerts worldwide. She taught in Switzerland between 1973 and 1990.

Her life was chronicled in the 2002 book "Will You Listen to Ayla?". In 2012, she was honored with the French "Médaille de Vermeil" award.
