WHO IS NAMIK TAN?
Namık Tan is a Turkish diplomat and politician. Tan, who began his education in Hatay, studied in Ankara from the 4th grade of primary school onwards. Although he was accepted to Galatasaray High School, he graduated from TED Ankara College. After graduating from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 1978, he worked at the Ministry of Trade for a short time and then completed his military service. During his military service, he passed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs exams and began his diplomatic career in 1982.
In the early years of his diplomatic career, Tan served as a secretary at the embassies in Moscow and Abu Dhabi, and in the 1990s, he worked as a chief secretary and counselor at the Washington Embassy. Between 1996 and 1997, he served as the chief of staff for three different Ministers of Foreign Affairs. In 2006, he was appointed as the Ambassador to Tel Aviv and witnessed the Davos Crisis in Turkey-Israel relations during this tenure. After serving as the Ambassador to Washington between 2010 and 2014, he retired from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
