WHO IS MEHMET KARAYILAN?

Mehmet Karayılan was born in 1967 in a village in the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa. Having completed his middle and high school education in Halfeti, Karayılan finished his higher education at the Gaziantep Vocational School of Higher Education, Department of Construction.

He was involved in the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) between 2012 and 2013. He took part in the founding process of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). He served as the Provincial Co-Chair for two terms, including as the founding Provincial Co-Chair of the Antep HDP. He served two terms as a member of the HDP Party Assembly and one term as a member of the HDP Headquarters Disciplinary Board.

In 2018, he was an HDP parliamentary candidate for Gaziantep.

In the March 31, 2024 local elections, he became the candidate for Co-Mayor of Halfeti for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).

WHY WAS MEHMET KARAYILAN REMOVED FROM OFFICE?

Halfeti Co-Mayor Mehmet Karayılan had been elected in the district, which has a population of approximately 50 thousand, by receiving 39 percent of the public vote. It was notified to him at 07.30 this morning that a trustee had been appointed to replace him.
