WHO IS SELİM İLERİ?

Selim İleri was born on April 30, 1949, in Istanbul. He graduated from Atatürk High School in 1968. He attended the Istanbul University Faculty of Law for a time. He left his education unfinished to dedicate himself entirely to writing.

His first article was published in the magazine Yeni Ufuklar in 1967. He became famous for his writings published in magazines such as Papirüs, Yeni Edebiyat, Yeni Dergi, Türk Dili, Türkiye Defteri, Milliyet Sanat, and Gösteri. In 1979, he managed the arts page of the newspaper Dünya.

In his first short story collection, "Cumartesi Yalnızlığı" (Saturday Loneliness), published in 1968, he described the lives of people trapped within limited relationships. In his short story collections "Pastırma Yazı" (Indian Summer) and "Bir Denizin Eteklerinde" (At the Skirts of a Sea), he recounted the passions and troubled relationships of adaptable young people, as well as the sorrows, loneliness, and quests for salvation of middle-class individuals.

After 1973, he turned to novels. He achieved great success with his novel "Her Gece Bodrum" (Bodrum Every Night). In this novel, where he used the internal monologue technique, he addressed the quests and dead ends of intellectuals who fell into depression amidst social turmoil. In addition to his novels and short stories, he also wrote screenplays, essays, and literary studies.
