DEM Party Istanbul MP and Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Sırrı Süreyya Önder has passed away. The statement issued by the hospital overseeing Önder's treatment included the following remarks:

"Mr. Süreyya ÖNDER was brought to our hospital by ambulance on 15.04.2025 at 22:41, with his consciousness closed, in a state of respiratory and cardiac arrest, accompanied by cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was urgently diagnosed with 'Aortic Dissection' and underwent a Bentall operation (aortic valve replacement and ascending aorta replacement) as well as a single-vessel bypass surgery.

Following the surgery, hemodynamic stability was achieved in our intensive care unit under ECMO (heart support device) and intensive medical treatment. The patient's neurological condition worsened as his life-threatening situation increased, and he entered multi-organ failure. Despite the follow-up and treatment in our intensive care unit, Mr. Sırrı Süreyya ÖNDER passed away on the 18th day, on 03.05.2025 at 16:10, due to multi-organ failure. We extend our condolences to his family and all his loved ones."

WHO IS SIRRI SÜREYYA ÖNDER?

Sırrı Süreyya Önder was born on July 7, 1962, in Adıyaman. He was a Turkish director, screenwriter, producer, actor, journalist, and politician.

He worked in various fields, including directing, screenwriting, acting, music production, and as a columnist for the national press. In the 2011 general elections, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Istanbul's 2nd district.

In the 2014 local elections, he was the HDP's candidate for Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, but was unsuccessful in the election.

In the June 2015 and November 2015 general elections, which he participated in under the HDP banner, he was elected as an MP from Ankara's 1st district.

He served as an MP for Istanbul during the 24th term of the TBMM, and as an MP for Ankara during the 25th and 26th terms.
