Who will replace Rıza Akpolat at Beşiktaş Municipality? Özgür Çelik explains

CHP's Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, who was detained as part of a 'tender corruption investigation' launched in Istanbul, has been arrested.

The question of who will occupy the mayoral seat at Beşiktaş Municipality in place of the arrested Akpolat has become a subject of curiosity.

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made a statement regarding the matter. Çelik stated that an acting mayor will be appointed from among the CHP municipal council members.

CHP HAS 31 MUNICIPAL COUNCIL MEMBERS IN BEŞİKTAŞ

There are a total of 31 municipal council members in Beşiktaş Municipality. All of these members were elected from CHP candidates in the March 31 Local Elections.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL: A TURKISH RECORD

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, speaking at a rally held in front of Beşiktaş Municipality, stated that Rıza Akpolat had broken a record and said the following:

"In every election, one party wins, and the parties that receive fewer votes share the municipal council and gain representation in proportion to their strength. I would like to announce to Turkey that there are 31 municipal council seats in Beşiktaş Municipality. The people of Beşiktaş divided this as follows; they gave all 31 of the 31 seats to the Republican People's Party, to Rıza Akpolat's team. I am addressing all our valuable citizens across Turkey who have preferred parties other than the Republican People's Party. I am addressing our valuable political colleagues who engage in politics in other parties and with whom we are rivals, as well as the municipal council members, district chairs, and mayors of all political parties. I am addressing the administrators of other political parties. If all 31 municipal council members in a district are given to one party, the decision there is absolute, and satisfaction is complete. It is even beyond that. The fact that the nation did not give even one of the 31 municipal council seats to the AK Party - MHP alliance, which is our rival, has a meaning in this city. Beşiktaş said, 'I thought it over. I looked at the service I received. I looked at those who provided the service and I made my decision. You do not enter through this door.' Beşiktaş has decided from whom it will receive service."
