Will a call for disarmament come from Öcalan to the PKK? DEM Party's Ahmet Türk responds
Ahmet Türk, who was part of the DEM Party delegation that met with MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, stated, "As a result of these meetings, a call for disarmament could come during the second or third visit to İmralı."
Following the call from MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the DEM Party, which visited İmralı on December 28 to meet with Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, has begun its rounds of talks at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) regarding İmralı.
The DEM Party delegation, which included Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Pervin Buldan, and former Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk—who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee—first visited Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş and then MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli.
Speaking to Nefes Gazetesi columnist Aytunç Erkin, Ahmet Türk, a member of the DEM Party delegation, made statements regarding the new resolution process.
"A CALL FOR DISARMAMENT COULD COME DURING THE SECOND OR THIRD VISIT"
Stating, "Bahçeli's attitude was very positive; you can truly see that he is respectful and sincere," Türk responded to the question regarding the meeting with Bahçeli, "Was a call for disarmament by Öcalan, etc., discussed?" as follows:
"As a result of these meetings, a call for disarmament could come during the second or third visit to İmralı."
Türk continued:
"We cannot say anything yet. That is the information we have received as well. It is understood that they will meet with all political parties, and the delegation will go to İmralı again, and an assessment will be made accordingly."
"ÖCALAN DID NOT RAISE ISSUES LIKE THE RIGHT TO HOPE DURING THE MEETING"
Türk also responded to Erkin's question, "Was there a demand for a general amnesty in your meeting with Bahçeli?" as follows:
"These are speculations. Öcalan did not raise issues like the right to hope during the meeting either. Syria, developments in Turkey, and the efforts of imperialism to seize the Middle East... These were the topics that came up in the meeting with Öcalan. What needs to be done against these? The idea that we need to solve our own issues ourselves was discussed. Let no one else intervene. Öcalan also says 'this is an internal matter' and explains that the parliament should solve it. This is the information provided by the friends who held the meeting, but I cannot say more."
