Workers at Sakarya police building construction site receive payment promise: 'If the promise is not kept, we will take to the squares'

Workers from Ilgazlar İnşaat, who are working on the Sakarya Provincial Police Department building construction, have announced that they are temporarily suspending the protest they started for their unpaid wages and rights until Friday morning. The workers stated that they received a promise from the concordat commissioners that payment would be made, but they would not leave the construction site until they received their rights.

Patronların Ensesindeyiz (PE) Representative Murat Taksim stated that there was an attempt to break the workers' resistance during the process, alleging that Ilgazlar İnşaat boss İsmail Ilgaz came to the construction site and threatened and insulted the workers. Taksim claimed that the workers' food and electricity were cut off and that there were attempts to remove the dormitories.

Taksim said that after the commissioners of the company, which is in the concordat process, intervened, a promise was made that payment would be made by Friday morning. Stating that they have temporarily suspended the protest for this reason, Taksim expressed that they will continue to wait at the construction site and provide updates to the public.

The workers announced that they would escalate the protest if the promises made are not kept. Taksim said, "If the promise made is not kept; we had already declared that we would not leave here without winning. We will escalate our protests here and take them to the squares of Sakarya."

PE Representative Selahattin Kural also said that an important stage has been reached in the struggle that the workers have been carrying out for days. Kural stated that in the meeting held with İsmail Ilgaz and the appointed concordat commissioner, a promise was made that payments would be made on Friday.

Kural noted that they would share new steps with the public according to the developments on Friday. Stating that the workers forced the boss to take a step back by acting together, Kural said, "The workers will definitely receive all their rights and return to their hometowns and their families."
