Worrying warning from expert regarding aftershocks in Balıkesir! 'This is outside the ordinary...'
Following the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir on August 10, aftershocks continue in the region. Experts made striking statements following the 4.2-magnitude aftershock that occurred today.
Aftershocks are continuing unabated following the 6.1-magnitude earthquake in Sındırgı, Balıkesir. A total of 85 earthquakes were recorded between 07:53 this morning and 13:30 this afternoon.
One of these earthquakes had a magnitude of 4.2, while 5 of them occurred with a magnitude above 3.0.
Speaking on CNN Türk, Prof. Dr. Süleyman Pampal evaluated the 4.2-magnitude aftershock, stating that this situation is out of the ordinary. Pampal said the following:
“The aftershock activity in the region is far above what is expected. This is outside the ordinary. This is the point where two different fault zones meet. In general, earthquakes continue by decreasing in both magnitude and frequency. The aftershocks of a 6.1 should be smaller. An anomaly can occur from time to time; it does not just follow a downward trend. Aftershock activity is very intense in the region.”
