Yeni Akit targets Ali Koç over TFF's Super Cup scandal! 'He stirred up trouble'
The pro-government newspaper Yeni Akit has blamed Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç for the Super Cup debacle caused by the Turkish Football Federation.
Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray were set to play the Super Cup final in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, when a crisis erupted just hours before the match.
When Saudi authorities did not permit banners and t-shirts featuring Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray decided not to take the field.
"IF THERE IS NO ATATÜRK, THERE IS NO TURKEY, AND WE ARE NOT HERE EITHER"
It was alleged that during discussions with TFF officials, Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç angrily left the room, stating, "If there is no Atatürk, there is no Turkey, and we are not here either; there will be no match."
THEY DEFENDED THE SAUDI AUTHORITIES' CLAIMS!
The Yeni Akit newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, targeted Ali Koç in a report published on its website. Defending the claims of Saudi authorities, Yeni Akit included the following statements in its article titled "Ali Koç stirred up the trouble! 'He did everything to ensure the match wouldn't be played'": "According to Saudi Arabian officials, Ali Koç constantly put forward new conditions and made efforts to ensure this match would not be played. The officials said, 'The issue was not Atatürk, but he wanted to use him to make the Arabs appear responsible.'"
