The reception of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the Presidential Palace has brought claims that Tugay will join the AKP back to the agenda.
HE HAD RESIGNED FROM THE CHP
Cemil Tugay had announced on June 18 that he had resigned from the CHP and would continue his duties as an independent.
Following the resignation, claims that Tugay would join the AKP were put forward, but the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor had denied these allegations. In his statement regarding the matter, Tugay had used the expression, "I do not have a situation of joining a party at the moment."
Tugay's previous statements regarding his intention to continue his duties as an independent had also been reflected in the public eye.
OCTOBER 7 CLAIM FOR JOINING THE AKP
The new claim regarding Tugay's political future came from YENİ Party Aydın MP Süleyman Bülbül.
Bülbül alleged that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay will join the AKP on October 7.
