Yeni Party's Emir compares 'Mecca Agreement' to 'mercenary guard duty': It is impossible for us to accept

Yeni Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir argued that the agreement signifies a collapse of institutional wisdom. Expressing that the agreement carries regional risks, Emir said, "With all this in plain sight, it is impossible for us to accept an agreement that will make Turkey a party to such regional conflicts, which, in reality, will serve no purpose other than finding hot money from Saudi Arabia, and which will unfortunately turn Turkey into a mercenary guard for these countries."

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Pervin Buldan. Before moving to the agenda of the General Assembly, group deputy chairmen made evaluations regarding the agenda. 

Stating that the agreement, signed with the participation of the President, is being presented as a "strategic genius," Yeni Party Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir argued that the agreement signifies a collapse of institutional wisdom. Pointing out that Pakistan is a nuclear power with problems with India over Kashmir, and that it also faces potential war risks due to its issues with Afghanistan and Iran, Emir stated that Saudi Arabia acts as a shield for Israel in the Israel-Iran conflict, is deeply intertwined with Israel and America, and has been in conflict with the Houthis for many years.

Emir used the expression, "With all this in plain sight, it is impossible for us to accept an agreement that will make Turkey a party to such regional conflicts, which, in reality, will serve no purpose other than finding hot money from Saudi Arabia, and which will unfortunately turn Turkey into a mercenary guard for these countries."

Noting that although the political power claims in public squares that it is against Israel and stands with Palestine, it has clearly become the main actor in a containment operation established against Iran, Emir said, "There is no reason for us to take on regional risks, and they have no right to drag our country into such adventures that they market through adventurous, personalized, and individual diplomacy of a single person, through leader diplomacy. We, and our supreme Parliament, are waiting for this agreement, and we will demand here that it be clearly explained why the Republic of Turkey is taking on such risks."

AKP's Zengin: It is not an agreement made against any country

Responding to the opposition parties' criticisms of the agreement, AKP Group Deputy Chairman Özlem Zengin stated that the agreement was signed like many other international agreements and that it would come to the TBMM institutionally through the Presidency following correspondence between the parties. Stating that it will be discussed in the General Assembly in accordance with Article 90 of the Constitution, Zengin expressed that it will enter into force after the approval process.

Stating that the agreement has sparked excitement not only in Turkey but also in the region, and that it is evaluated as important and promising by former politicians and administrators, Zengin made the assessment, "This agreement is actually an important agreement in terms of developing a joint defense strategy in the regional sense, and it is a problem-solving-oriented agreement planned for the region to be more stable, aiming to solve existing problems within itself, by the region combining its own power within itself, and at the same time, it must be stated that this agreement is one that is open to the participation of other countries in the region if desired, not just the 3 countries within the framework of this agreement."

Emphasizing that the agreement is not against any country and does not violate NATO, Zengin said, "When looked at in this way, I would also like to underline that this is an extremely important agreement in terms of defense strategy, which will improve the problem-solving capability of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan on regional issues for today and the future, and also when viewed in terms of armament and planning in that region, and I hope it will be auspicious for our country and for the region. I would like to underline and state that it is extremely important for regional countries to strengthen in the resolution of regional problems."
