Yeni Party's Yaşar Tüzün on 'thwarting the AKP and MHP trap': Decision on the 'Framework Law' vote

Yeni Party Deputy Chairman Yaşar Tüzün, regarding the framework law proposal, said, "If we, starting with our Chairman, had not voted in favor, it would have been accepted with the 432 votes cast by AK Party, MHP, DEM, and other parties' deputies. So, how were we supposed to emerge from this 40-year conflict? How were we supposed to ensure social peace? We threw a wrench into the trap set by the AKP and MHP," he said.

The program was attended by Yeni Party district chairs, provincial general and municipal council members, Bayırköy Mayor Aykut Dilsiz, Bilecik deputy mayors, and numerous party members.

Tüzün stated that legal and statutory avenues within the CHP had been exhausted, but that they were forced to open a new path because an extraordinary convention was not convened. Noting that 1,004 convention delegates had submitted their request for an extraordinary convention via notary, Tüzün stated that no results were achieved despite this. He recalled that upon this, action was taken in the TBMM group under the leadership of Özgür Özel, and 91 CHP deputies resigned within an hour to take part in the founding committee of the new party.

Tüzün made the following assessment regarding the acceptance of the "Law Proposal on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration" in the TBMM General Assembly with 467 votes:

"Four-fifths of the parliament voted in favor. If we, as the YENİ Party, had not voted in favor, this law would have been accepted; even if we had voted against it, this law would have been accepted and passed.

35 of the 467 affirmative votes belong to our deputies from the YENİ Party. If we, starting with our Chairman, had not voted in favor, it would have been accepted with the 432 votes cast by AK Party, MHP, DEM, and other parties' deputies.

So, how were we supposed to emerge from this 40-year conflict? How were we supposed to ensure social peace? We threw a wrench into the trap set by the AKP and MHP.

We said that we made this assessment so that tomorrow, when the slightest terrorist incident occurs in Turkey, it wouldn't be said, 'Look, those who didn't want peace, the YENİ Party members, those who voted against it, this is their doing if this martyr has fallen today.' As I just stated, in the 24th term of parliament, no one can force a woman with a headscarf to uncover her head, nor can anyone force someone without a headscarf to cover it.

There are ladies here with and without headscarves. We paved the way for them to live freely in this country. If we had said at that time, 'No, headscarves cannot enter official offices,' we would have stood in the way of peace, and they would have spent years playing politics and creating perceptions over headscarves. We took that perception out of their hands. We contributed at that time. Those who said, 'Sir, the unitary state is collapsing, secularism is being lost,' have been proven wrong today. Over time, they have come to agree with us."
