Yerlikaya announces the number of Syrians who have returned to their country: We are announcing it for the first time
Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya provided new figures regarding the number of Syrians who have returned to their country during a television program he attended.
Ali Yerlikaya used the phrase 'we are announcing this number for the first time' and disclosed the number of Syrians who have returned to their country since 2016. Here is that statement made by Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya:
"On December 8, Syria was liberated from Assad's oppression. Since 2017, we have stopped migration at its source. From 2016 to the present, 1 million 126 people have returned.
We are announcing this number for the first time. From the morning of December 9, 2024, to this day, 250 thousand 64 people have returned.
47 thousand families have returned. This number will increase during the summer holidays when schools close. There are 3 million 988 thousand 157 foreigners in Turkey. The number of Syrians under temporary protection is 2,711,170. 1,104,385 people have residence permits. The number of those under international protection is 172,602."
