Yıldırım Demirören's statement on 'debt': 'The fruit-bearing tree is stoned'

It was alleged that Demirören Holding, which took out an 895 million dollar loan from Ziraat Bank for the purchase of Hürriyet, Kanal D, CNN Türk, and other media channels and newspapers from Doğan Holding for 916 million dollars in 2018, transferred real estate assets within Hürriyet Newspaper to the bank in exchange for the 70 million dollar installments it was required to pay this year.

Speaking to Hürriyet Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Ahmet Hakan following the "debt and loan" news that came to the agenda, Demirören Holding Chairman of the Board Yıldırım Demirören said, "When you do successful work, such results can emerge. The fruit-bearing tree is stoned."

'SUCH RESULTS CAN EMERGE'

Responding to the question, "What do you attribute the efforts of certain circles to keep this debt issue on the agenda?", Demirören stated, "When you do successful work, such results can emerge. The fruit-bearing tree is stoned. At the very top of the commercial ethics we learned from my late father is paying our debts on time. Debt is a part of business life. In countries like Turkey, where one starts with low equity, all businesspeople meet their need for capital and growth through borrowing. This is very natural. Like other businesspeople, we also make certain investments by borrowing. What is important here is for the businessperson to pay their debt on time. This is the duty of every businessperson. We are also fulfilling those duties of ours."

'OUR INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENTS CONTINUE'

Speaking about his recent investments, Demirören said, "For some time now, our investments have been continuing not only in Turkey but also abroad, primarily in Azerbaijan. These investments contribute to the economy of both our country and our brother countries. But more importantly, these investments serve to strengthen the ties between our country and our brother countries. This makes us happy. We are one of the first organizations in Turkey to make investment decisions and roll up our sleeves for new projects for the development and reconstruction of that region after the Karabakh victory. We have important collaborations in international fields in critical and strategic sectors. Energy, logistics, and of course, media."
