Yılmaz Tunç's 'Bring it on' response to İmamoğlu: 'He cannot wag his finger'
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç gave a harsh response to İmamoğlu's "Bring it on" statement. Tunç stated, "No one can threaten the judiciary or wag their finger at it."
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç made statements to journalists.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç responded to the remarks made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who said that if the sentence in the case—which was carried to the Court of Appeal after he was sentenced to 2 years, 7 months, and 15 days in prison and a 5-year political ban—is upheld, the nation will rise up and the government will not even see the Supreme Court stage.
Tunç stated, "The nation knows how to respond when necessary to those who engage in such attitudes."
"CANNOT BE THREATENED"
Tunç's statements are as follows:
"In particular, Articles 9 and 138 of our Constitution are our important articles. Our judiciary makes decisions within the framework of relevant legislation. No one can threaten the judiciary. No one can wag their finger at the judiciary. It is an inappropriate behavior. The judiciary is independent; everyone must respect judicial decisions.
One cannot threaten members of the judiciary by appearing on television programs and waving their arms. Of course, judicial decisions can be criticized. After the judiciary makes a decision, the judiciary reaches the most perfect state through criticisms. You cannot go out there and influence members of the judiciary by wagging your finger.
WHAT DID İMAMOĞLU SAY?
Ekrem İmamoğlu had used the following expressions in his statement yesterday regarding the case known in the public as the 'fool case':
"This nation will rise up. Beyond my claim... Bring it on. Everything is clear. If you asked a thousand legal experts, not one would issue a sentence based on the word 'fool'. Who was 'fool' said to? That is clear. The expert report is clear. The moves made are clear. You are manufacturing a case from this. It is shameful. The government that deems this appropriate for itself is responsible for this matter. Bring it on. Are you going to issue a sentence? Go ahead and issue it. My promise to you: This nation will rise up. This nation will not let you see that period until the Supreme Court makes its decision; it will send you home. The method for that is also clear. An early election will come."
