Young man killed while working as a taxi driver laid to rest

Eren Peker, a second-year student in the Furniture and Decoration Department at Konya Technical University, was stabbed to death by individuals he had a dispute with in traffic while working as a taxi driver. Peker's body was released to his relatives following an autopsy at the Konya Forensic Medicine Institute.

LAID TO REST AFTER AFTERNOON PRAYERS

Peker's funeral was brought to his hometown of Karaman in a convoy formed by his fellow taxi drivers, and his funeral prayer was held at the Ahmet Yesevi Mosque following the afternoon prayer. The prayer was attended by Peker's family, relatives, his taxi driver colleagues who traveled from Konya, and numerous citizens. During the prayer, it was observed that Eren Peker's grandfather, Üzeyir Uysal, struggled to stand. Following the prayer, Peker was buried with prayers at the city cemetery in the Hamidiye neighborhood.

"HE WAS LIKE AN ANGEL"

Ömer Fırat Arık, who worked at the same taxi stand as Eren Peker, said, “I expect support from the state. We saw this last night as well. We are not allowed to keep tools like pepper spray or batons in our cars to protect ourselves. At the very least, let us have tools with which we can defend ourselves. Our state must put a stop to drug addicts and alcoholics. How many more lives must be lost? A few days ago, we saw a taxi driver narrowly escape being stabbed. Today, our brother, a young sapling of 19, has passed away. He was a very good, angel-like person with a radiant face. In fact, we spoke with him last night. We were joking around, but then we received the news at night. That is how it happens in 30 seconds. We want him to get up and come back, but where will we find him? The suspects of the murder have not yet been caught. They should find them immediately. He was coming to relieve us; I had known him for about 5-6 months. He had become someone I did not distinguish from my own brother.”
