The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has announced the reasoning behind its decision to grant the certificate of election to Abdullah Zeydan, who was elected Mayor of Van Metropolitan Municipality.
The statement is as follows:
"Even if the decision of the Diyarbakır High Criminal Court dated 29/3/2024 is considered null and void, it has not yet become final in this state. Since Abdullah Zeydan possesses a decision for the restoration of prohibited rights that was submitted and accepted in accordance with the election calendar, even if only formally, and which has become final, he possessed the eligibility to be elected as of the voting day of March 31, 2024."
