YSK Chair Ahmet Yener evaluates objections to local election results

Supreme Election Council (YSK) Chair Ahmet Yener stated that regarding the election results of March 31, 2 objections each from the AK Party and the DEM Party, and 1 objection each from the CHP and the MHP have been accepted.

Yener exchanged holiday greetings with members of the press who were following the objection process for the March 31 Local Administration General Elections at the YSK.

Stating that they continued to work during the holiday period, Yener reminded that the ordinary objection process ended as of yesterday, and the extraordinary objection process will be completed on Sunday, April 14.

Expressing that every election period should be evaluated within its own conditions, but that he could easily say there is not much difference between the objection process in 2019 and the one in 2024, Yener said, "Perhaps there may be differences on a provincial basis. There may be more objections this term from provinces where no or very few objections were filed in 2019. So far, the process is continuing in its normal course."

6 OBJECTIONS FROM 4 PARTIES ACCEPTED

Providing information regarding the results of the objections filed by political parties, Yener said:

"In this process, there are both accepted and rejected objections from all our political parties. The AK Party's objections in 2 locations were accepted. Similarly, the CHP's objection in 1 location was accepted. The MHP's objection in 1 location and the DEM Party's objections in 2 locations, which were submitted to our board, were accepted. The process is ongoing. Our board will meet today at 14.00. Our meetings will continue in the afternoons during the holiday period and on other days as well."

Pointing out that the conditions for extraordinary objections regarding elections are included in the law, Yener stated, "The headquarters of our political parties are requesting that the decisions we have made be re-examined under the conditions stipulated by the law. It is requested that the decisions we have made be reviewed again."

Evaluating the fact that the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) deemed the YSK worthy of an award in the field of "Best Practices and Initiatives," Yener stated that the award was given as a result of the evaluation of the presentations they sent regarding the 2023 elections and the election process that took place before that.

Chair Yener said, "This is not just about the activities of the institution during our term. We can describe it as the rewarding and crowning of the success of the elections held by our country's YSK in the process that has been continuing since 1950."

On the other hand, Yener stated that due to the acceptance of the objections filed, elections will be held again in the Pınarbaşı district of Kayseri, the Hilvan district of Şanlıurfa, a town in Edirne, and an electoral district in Sivas, and that the elections will take place on June 2 within the framework of the election calendar.
