Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ speaks on PKK's dissolution decision: A terrorist organization cannot be dissolved

Regarding the PKK terrorist organization's dissolution process, Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ stated, "A terrorist organization cannot be dissolved; it lays down its arms and surrenders. Through these efforts developed with foreign support, the 'nation-state' structure of the Republic of Turkey is actually being dismantled step by step."

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ speaks on PKK's dissolution decision: A terrorist organization cannot be dissolved

Ümit Özdağ stated that the organization is restructuring under the guise of dissolution and is attempting to pursue its political goals in this manner.

"The process aimed at eliminating the struggle between a state and one of the bloodiest terrorist organizations in history cannot be characterized by the word 'peace'," said Özdağ, noting that terms like 'Mr.' and 'leadership' used for terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan are being employed to legitimize the process.

A written statement sent by Ümit Özdağ regarding the PKK terrorist organization's "dissolution process" was read on SÖZCÜ TV.

Ümit Özdağ's written statement is as follows:

"The process cannot be characterized by the word 'peace'. The announcement of the PKK terrorist organization to end its existence is being presented with great enthusiasm as a success story. Over the last 23 years, we have seen such success campaigns in celebrations like the Annan Plan, EU full membership, the Dolmabahçe Consensus, and most recently the conquest of Syria. However, once the initial excitement passed, a very different picture emerged.

As the only political leader who has studied the history, terror, publications, and actions of the PKK for decades, I am being forced to watch what is happening from a cell in Silivri Prison. I am writing these lines while looking at a manhole cover 4 meters away from which a heavy odor rises. The reason I am being forced to be here is that I would ask questions and make assessments regarding the ongoing process. I may be in a cell in Silivri. However, Zafer Party Deputy Chairman Şehirlioğlu, our Board Members, GİK members, Women's Branches, and Youth Branches are sharing our questions and objections with the Turkish Nation.

In essence, dissolution is a concept that applies to institutions and structures with a legally recognized legal personality. A terrorist organization cannot be dissolved; it lays down its arms and surrenders. When looking at the implementation of the Imralı process placed before us, it is clear that under the concept of dissolution, the terrorist organization is not only failing to dismantle its organizational structure but is also restructuring and attempting to advance its so-called political goals. Through these efforts developed with foreign support, the 'nation-state' structure of the Republic of Turkey is actually being dismantled step by step. The process aimed at eliminating the struggle between a state and one of the bloodiest terrorist organizations in history cannot be characterized by the word 'peace'.

"EPITHETS LIKE 'MR.' AND CONCEPTS LIKE 'LEADERSHIP' ARE BEING USED TO LEGITIMIZE THEM"

The Republic of Turkey is a unitary state. Under the roof of this state, there are no peoples in conflict with each other. In this respect, the word 'peace' being used aims to confuse minds. By introducing epithets like 'Mr.' and concepts like 'leadership' for the main perpetrators of bloody massacres, they are attempting to legitimize members of the terrorist organization. This organization, which brutally murdered thousands of people—men, women, and babies—between the 1980s and 1990s, had its bloody actions brought under control by our state's security forces and neutralized within our borders. For this reason, the memory of what a murderous structure this organization is does not exist in the minds of our citizens born since the mid-1990s. This situation provides additional ground for the propaganda being conducted."
