Zafer Party Leader Özdağ reacts to government 'punishment': 'As a result of wrong policies'
Zafer Party Leader Ümit Özdağ criticized the government's agricultural policies in a statement on his social media account.
Özdağ stated, "The Turkish farmer continues to be punished as if they were responsible for the high cost of living in Turkey. As a result of its wrong agricultural policies, the government continues to increase agricultural input costs."
Stating that farmers are practically being punished due to wrong policies, Özdağ used the following expressions:
"The Turkish farmer continues to be punished as if they were responsible for the high cost of living in Turkey. As a result of its wrong agricultural policies, the government continues to increase agricultural input costs.
Instead of correcting its mistake, it is trying to fix it with another wrong policy that includes customs duty reductions, exemptions, or additional facilities for imported agricultural products. One wrong policy cannot be corrected with another wrong policy.
We have reached a point where we import walnuts from China; wheat from Russia and Ukraine; meat from Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay; and rice, tobacco, nuts, and fruit from the USA. With this new decision, we continue to import corn and barley as well.
One morning, we will wake up and not be able to find a single Turkish agricultural product with a price tag on it. Abandon this decision. Protecting the Turkish farmer is equivalent to protecting the borders of the homeland."
