Ziraat Bankası General Manager Alpaslan Çakar's remarks at earthquake commemoration draw backlash
On the second anniversary of the major disaster that occurred on February 6, the "We Become One: February 6 Earthquakes Commemoration Program" was held at the Adıyaman Youth and Sports Directorate Sports Hall. Remarks made by Ziraat Bankası General Manager Alpaslan Çakar at the program, which was also attended by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, drew backlash.
Erdoğan attended the "We Become One: February 6 Earthquakes Commemoration Program" at the Adıyaman Youth and Sports Directorate Sports Hall.
During the commemoration program, Ziraat Bankası General Manager Alpaslan Çakar made remarks that became a topic of discussion.
"I GAVE THE MOST MONEY"
Taking the stage as part of the program, Alpaslan Çakar said to President Erdoğan, "I am the biggest philanthropist here; I gave the most money."
Upon hearing those words, Erdoğan warned Çakar.
"Enough, don't say 'I gave'; the nation gave, the state gave. You were the intermediaries!" he replied.
