Zülfü Livaneli comments on municipal concerts: 'They should not exceed the limits of fairness'

Artist and author Zülfü Livaneli drew attention to the debate surrounding municipal concerts and high fees by sharing a portion of his column published in Oksijen newspaper on his social media account.

Livaneli stated, "Some municipalities have been left in a difficult position due to the high concert fees flying around in recent days. Some have even taken things to the point of writing, 'Concerts should be banned all over Turkey.' Isn't there a reasonable measure for this?"

CONCERTS CAN BE FREE

Emphasizing that it is normal for artists performing at public concerts to receive payment, but that this should not exceed the limits of fairness, Livaneli gave examples of solidarity concerts he held in the past.

The artist stated that he did not receive any payment for the five concerts he held at the Ankara Hippodrome during the Murat Karayalçın era or for the Anıttepe concerts organized by the Çankaya Municipality, and said that he did not have any financial expectations during the charity concerts organized for earthquake victims, where he performed alongside many foreign artists.

Stating that he donated the proceeds from ticketed concerts during the pandemic to various non-governmental organizations and unemployed musicians, Livaneli said, "I did not boast about these; they were necessary for my inner peace."

WHERE HAVE IDEOLOGICAL BLINDNESSES DRAGGED PEOPLE?

Stating that his name was unfairly dragged into the concert debate, Livaneli concluded his remarks with the words, "I watch with astonishment those who involve my name in these matters, despite the fact that I am not giving any concerts and have stated this. Where have ideological blindnesses dragged people?"
