Although 2024 was declared the year of the retiree, retired citizens have been crushed under the weight of high inflation. CHP Manisa Deputy Bekir Başevirgen stated, "If retirees only ate menemen for iftar and suhoor throughout the month of Ramadan, the monthly cost would be nearly 4,000 liras."
CHP Manisa Deputy Bekir Başevirgen, issued a written statement expressing his concerns regarding the impact of high inflation on retirees.
Başevirgen, noting that in 2024, which was declared the "year of the retirees"by President and AKP Chairman Erdoğan, retirees are the segment most affected by the economic crisis,pointed out that with rising inflation, the incomes of retirees have eroded and poverty has increased.
RAMADAN CALCULATION FOR RETIREES
Noting that with the approach of Ramadan, retirees are worried about what they will put on their tables for iftar and suhoor, Başevirgen emphasized that if retirees only eat menemen, the monthly cost approaches 4,000 liras.
He also added, "Those who cannot afford red meat and want to eat chicken sauté for iftar have to spend at least 210 liras."
