30 percent hike in public transport in Istanbul
A 30 percent hike in public transport fares has been approved by a majority vote in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly.
The new public transport fare schedule, prepared upon the proposal of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) administration, has been approved by the municipal assembly. Following the approval, a 30 percent increase was implemented across many items, from public transport vehicles to taxis and shuttle service fees.
With the new regulation, a significant change has occurred in the fees for public transport services.
The electronic full ticket fare has been increased from 27 TL to 35 TL.
The monthly blue card subscription fee has been raised from 2120 TL to 2748 TL.
TAXI AND MINIBUS FARES UPDATED
Taxi and minibus fares, which are an important part of urban transport, were also affected by the hike. The taxi meter opening fee was raised from 42 TL to 54.50 TL, and the taxi short-distance fare was increased from 135 TL to 175 TL. For minibuses, the shortest distance fare rose from 25 TL to 32.50 TL.
SCHOOL AND PERSONNEL SHUTTLE FEES ALSO INCREASED
Within the scope of the hike decision, which also affects the shuttle costs of students and employees, school and personnel shuttle fees have been updated. The school shuttle fee for the shortest distance was raised from 2605 TL to 3376 TL, and the personnel shuttle fee was increased from 1355 TL to 1757 TL.
The increases will be effective as of September 15.
THE LAST HIKE IN TRANSPORT WAS 35 PERCENT
This year, on January 15, a 35 percent hike was applied to public transport, taxis, and school shuttles at the IMM UKOME meeting.
The additional 21.29 percent hike proposal submitted by the IMM at the UKOME meeting on June 26 was rejected by the "no" votes of the Ministry representatives, who formed the majority at the meeting.
