4th quarter tourism statistics released

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the tourism statistics for the 4th quarter.

Tourism revenue in the 4th quarter, consisting of October, November, and December, increased by 6.8% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 12 billion 272 million 673 thousand dollars. 15.2% of the tourism revenue was generated from citizens residing abroad who visited our country.

INCREASE IN TOURISM REVENUE

Visitors organize their trips either individually or through package tours. Of the expenditures made in this quarter, 9 billion 47 million 94 thousand dollars consisted of individual expenditures, while 3 billion 225 million 579 thousand dollars consisted of package tour expenditures.

Tourism revenue in 2023 increased by 16.9% compared to the previous year, reaching 54 billion 315 million 542 thousand dollars. Of this year's revenue, 41 billion 61 million 408 thousand dollars consisted of individual expenditures, and 13 billion 254 million 134 thousand dollars consisted of package tour expenditures.

INCREASE IN VISITOR NUMBERS

The number of visitors departing from our country in the 4th quarter of 2023 increased by 4.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 12 million 472 thousand 145 people. 13.6% of the visitors, totaling 1 million 694 thousand 536 people, were citizens residing abroad.

INCREASE OBSERVED IN VISITS ABROAD

In this quarter, the number of citizens visiting abroad increased by 26.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year, reaching 3 million 142 thousand 263 people. Their average expenditure per capita was 626 dollars.

When evaluated on an annual basis, the number of citizens visiting abroad increased by 52.3% compared to the previous year, reaching 11 million 67 thousand 359 people. Their average expenditure per capita was 639 dollars.

The number of visitors departing from our country in 2023 increased by 11.1% compared to the previous year, reaching 57 million 77 thousand 440 people. 13.5% of these, totaling 7 million 730 thousand 473 people, were citizens residing abroad.

In this quarter, the average nightly expenditure of visitors staying overnight in our country was 93 dollars. The average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was 64 dollars.

When evaluated on an annual basis, the average nightly expenditure of those staying overnight was 99 dollars, while the average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was 72 dollars.
