50 thousand flight tickets cancelled abruptly

Ticket cancellations have accelerated following the suspension of flights to Iran by airline companies in Turkey. While flights on the Turkey-Iran and Iran-Turkey routes by numerous companies, primarily Turkish Airlines, AJet, and Pegasus, have been cancelled in both directions, a refund process has been initiated for approximately 50 thousand tickets covering September and October.

It was stated that the decision came into effect as of September 21, 2026, following the threat of US sanctions. It was expressed that in the first phase, full refunds are being issued to passengers who had completed their ticketing process for flights planned for the remainder of September and for October.

NUMBER OF CANCELLATIONS EXPECTED TO RISE

It has been learned that over 50 thousand tickets have been included in the refund system for the approximately 40-day period. Due to the indefinite suspension of flights, it is assessed that the number of cancellations and refunds may increase in the coming period.

The impact of the decision on the tourism sector is also being closely monitored. According to last year's tourism data, while 3.28 million visitors arrived in Turkey from Iran, it is noted that approximately 2 million of these individuals traveled by air.

It is projected that if the majority of air connections are halted, Iranian tourists may turn to alternative countries, which could lead to a loss in Turkey's tourism revenues. New announcements from companies regarding flight schedules are being followed by passengers.
