6-month and 6,000-kilometer rule may be extended to motorcycles

Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat made a statement regarding motorcycle prices, which have recently surpassed automobiles to reach historic sales figures.

Recalling the price drops achieved in the market following the 6-month and 6,000-kilometer rule introduced for second-hand car sales, Bolat stated that a similar regulation could be implemented for the motorcycle sector.

Speaking to Gamze Bal from Hürriyet on the subject, Bolat said, "Motorcycles are also an automotive sector vehicle. We are working on that as well. There are currently intensive inspections and penal applications in place. Our colleagues are working with industry representatives on a regulation for motorcycles. We will ensure price drops and order there as well."

Hayrettin Ertemel, President of the Istanbul Motor Vehicle Dealers Association (İMAS), had stated in a statement in September that they would send an information note to the Ministry of Trade regarding motorcycle listings that were being attempted to be sold above the list price.

"DELIVERED IN 6 HOURS"

According to figures compiled by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MOTED) from TUIK data, motorcycle sales in the first 10 months of the year reached 813,520 units; thus, motorcycle sales surpassed the 749,501 car sales recorded in the same period.

Bolat stated that the inspections carried out in both the food sector and the automotive market have yielded results, and that the practices have created a 'breakwater' effect in the market, leading to price drops.

Bolat continued as follows:

"The automotive market has largely returned to order. New cars that could not be found for 6 months are now being delivered in 6 hours. We will continue our practices."
