Abdullah Kiğılı reacts to the price of toast and ayran: Who will put a stop to this?

Businessman Abdullah Kiğılı made statements regarding the economic situation during a YouTube broadcast he attended.

Pointing out the high prices and stating, "We are going through very difficult days," Kiğılı recalled that annual inflation reached 120 percent in the 1975-80 period and said, "Today we are reliving those days; it is unbelievable."

Stating that he used to go to the Borsa Restaurant at Lütfi Kırdar 2-3 days a week, Kiğılı said that all the restaurants at Zorlu Center are now 'incredibly' expensive and that his own 'goods' have also become expensive. 

'THE DOLLAR IS AT THE SAME LEVEL BUT PRICES ARE RISING'

"I wonder who will put a stop to this. The dollar has remained at the same level for months, yet prices continue to rise," said Kiğılı, continuing his words as follows:

"At the beginning of the month, there is a 38 percent hike in electricity. There are hikes in fuel. There are many taxes. Life is getting more and more expensive. It has reached such a point that there is a huge difference between the Turkey I lived in between 1975 and 1980 and the Turkey of today. In the Turkey of those days, monthly inflation was 10 percent and annual inflation was 120 percent. Today we are reliving those days; it is unbelievable. Our unit sales are falling every passing day. For years, we sold suits for 500 liras. The cheapest suit is now between 3,000 and 5,000 liras. There is a majority who cannot afford this. The situation is not looking good. Prices are still continuing to rise.

A toast and an ayran have exceeded 500 liras at roadside stops.

They say it will be better in 2025. Let's wait and see. If it doesn't, it means there is a major problem. We are going through very difficult days. Turkey has grown so much that it has reached a population of 85 million."
