Access ban on 30 high-follower social media accounts

The Ministry of Trade has taken a new step against illegal betting and gambling advertisements. In a statement released by the Ministry, it was announced that an access ban has been imposed on 30 social media accounts with high follower counts.

SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS UNDER SCRUTINY

The Ministry pointed out that advertisements for illegal betting and gambling sites are spreading, particularly via social media. In the investigations conducted within this scope, accounts that direct consumers to illegal sites and encourage them to engage in betting/gambling were identified. As a result of these efforts, it was decided to block access to 30 high-follower accounts.

DECISION FROM THE ADVERTISING BOARD

The following statements were included in the announcement made by the Ministry of Trade:

"Illegal betting and gambling advertisements were one of the main agenda items at the 360th meeting of the Ministry of Trade's Advertising Board, held on August 14, 2025. Social media accounts that encourage consumers to participate in live betting and promote gambling were placed under scrutiny."

Following the evaluations of the Advertising Board, it was announced that in addition to these accounts identified as engaging in illegal advertising, applications will be made to the relevant institutions to initiate legal proceedings against the parties involved.

DETERMINED STANCE FOR CONSUMER PROTECTION

The Ministry stated that there will be no compromise in the fight against such advertisements, which target the public, especially the youth. The statement included the following:

"As the Ministry of Trade, our efforts and inspections will continue uninterruptedly with the aim of protecting consumer rights, effectively and decisively combating illegal advertising activities, and keeping the public, especially the youth, away from such harmful influences."
