According to TurkStat, 53.3% of Turkey is happy: What was seen as the biggest problem?

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has announced the results of its 2025 Life Satisfaction Survey. According to the survey, the proportion of individuals aged 18 and over who stated they are happy rose from 49.6% in 2024 to 53.3% in 2025, an increase of 3.7 percentage points. The proportion of those who expressed that they are unhappy declined from 14.5% to 13.0% in the same period.

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT INCREASE WAS SEEN IN THE 55-64 AGE GROUP

When evaluated by age groups, the highest increase in the happiness rate was recorded in the 55-64 age group. In this age range, the happiness rate was 47.5% in 2024, rising by 7.1 percentage points to 54.6% in 2025.

RISE IN ALL AGE GROUPS DREW ATTENTION

Happiness levels showed an increase across all age groups in 2025. The rate rose to 54.4% in the 18-24 age group, 53.6% in the 25-34 age group, 52.9% in the 35-44 age group, and 50.8% in the 45-54 age group. The happiness rate for individuals aged 65 and over was calculated at 54.3%.

HAPPINESS RATE IS HIGHER AMONG MARRIED INDIVIDUALS

The survey results revealed that married individuals have a higher level of happiness compared to those who are not married. In 2025, the proportion of married individuals who stated they are happy was 56.9%, while this rate remained at 46.6% for those who are not married. 54.2% of married men and 59.6% of married women expressed that they are happy.

FAMILY IS AT THE CENTER OF HAPPINESS

Family ranked first among the people who make individuals the happiest. The proportion of those who stated that their family makes them happy was measured at 69.0%. Family was followed by children, the individual themselves, their spouse, parents, and grandchildren, respectively.

HEALTH IS THE STRONGEST VALUE OF HAPPINESS

When examining the values that are sources of happiness, 64.9% of individuals stated that being healthy is the element that makes them the happiest. Health was followed by love, success, money, and work.

TWO-THIRDS OF SOCIETY LOOKS TO THE FUTURE WITH HOPE

The proportion of individuals who expressed that they look to their future with hope was calculated at 67.1% in 2025. This rate was 67.1% for men and 67.2% for women.

LIFE SATISFACTION AVERAGE REMAINED UNCHANGED

The general satisfaction individuals feel with their lives was determined to be an average of 5.7 in both 2024 and 2025, based on an evaluation on a scale of 0 to 10. No change was observed in this average between men and women.

HIGHEST SATISFACTION IS IN PUBLIC SECURITY SERVICES

Public security services took the first place in satisfaction levels regarding public services with 74.1%. Transportation, health, the Social Security Institution, judicial services, and educational services were listed as other areas of satisfaction.

COST OF LIVING IS THE NUMBER ONE PROBLEM

Among the most important problems of the country, the cost of living ranked first with 31.3%. Poverty was stated as the second most important problem at 16.5%, and education as the third at 16.1%.
